Applications of Educational Technologies

                                          Students Video Games

Over the years, I have taught college students in ET-340, ET-240, high School and middle school students to program video games. These examples of middle school students' work are done using the program Scratch. Students are asked to create storyboards of the game and characters. Use game mechanics as well as other game-building concepts. Beta test the games with other students and write reflections on their work. The examples here were taught using Game-Based Learning in connection to the teaching philosophy of Constructionism

Digital Media for Middle Schools

As an education technology teacher, I have taught students how to create digital media. These are examples of middle school students' video productions. In these classes, students were introduced to building websites using Google Sites.  Newscasts where students used programs like We Video as well as green screen rooms and DSLR cameras while making advertisements, videos for TV or movie formats, and so on.  My work also was used to help other instructors to create similar classes at their schools.

Aurora Frontier P-8 Newscast

Digital Production is a great technology opportunity for so many students. The Aurora Frontier P-8 school's newscast was able to interview a wide range of important individuals inside the building and out in the community. By Teaching the middle school students to write, produce, and edit their own newscast they were able to make an impact on the school and district.

As part of a school District In Colorado, it has been a privilege to help other educators start their own technology programs like Digital Production. It is by helping each other and providing encouragement that schools build better programs for the future.

UNCO App
As part of ET-749, I was asked to create an app that could be used to improve a student's life. For my project, I made an app that would let me log into Canvas and go straight to each of the classes I was taking. This is a video tutorial demonstrating the app.

Genius Hour

In ET-525 and the class I teach ET-340, Genius Hour is an essential aspect of the class. Students are asked to develop their Project-Based Learning project. In this project, a student chose their learning project and developed how they wished to develop an understanding of the material. A learner could learn to play an instrument or speak a foreign language. Ultimately, this allows them to learn something they may miss the chance to learn in school.
